Development Seed have released alpha versions of their Feature Server, which, ironically (and I believe) is a feature in itself.

We had wind of the approaching goodness in this blog post by Young Hahn. Now the code, and also the theme(s) which is nice!, are available for download from http://code.developmentseed.org.

I promptly provisioned a new site via Aegir and downloaded/enabled the modules and themes, and then it occurred to me that it'd be neat to package it up as an install profile to make this process even faster. After all, this is what it's all about isn't it? Plus I've been getting more and more into install profile api lately, and more practice is always good. Especially when the documentation is this bad.

So I wrote an install profile that builds the Feature Server for you. Obviously you still need to download the dependencies but this is as easy as a drush dl (modules).

It's simple enough to make these Feature servers the traditional way, but if anyone wants to rapidly deploy multiple feature servers via Aegir, maybe my install profile (though very basic) will be a good start :)

You can download the install profile from my Feature Server!! I'll be putting up other bits and pieces here... some stuff just for ease of download when showing others. Nothing there is really intended to be put to live use - remember I am a pretty lousy coder ;)

On the other hand, I'll probably get my teeth sunk into Features even more soon, so I might actually start using the Feature Server for actual features like it's meant for, and not install profiles / dodgy little modules :)
